Des Moines University is making a splash with its state-of-the-art new campus, set to debut fall 2023.
Medical education and training in central Iowa will be all the sweeter with the construction of Des Moines University’s West Des Moines campus. Located on Grand Avenue west of Interstate 35 (that’s 10 1/2 miles southwest from its current location at 3200 Grand Ave. in Des Moines), the 88-acre space will feature state-of-the-art amenities focused on osteopathic training as well as the well-being of students, faculty and staff.
And part of its framework comes from the old campus — a 2,304-pound beam that students and faculty signed after it was removed last September. Construction of the campus began in 2020.
The technology-rich campus will include simulated health care environments, as well as a mix of labs, studios and offices. In addition, open areas allow space for study and conversation, while a wellness centers, fitness areas, a pool and open dining cater to everyone on campus.
“DMU is resetting its vision to remain a national, premiere medicine and health sciences university serving the community and the world,” said Angela Walker Franklin, president and CEO. The goal is to “ensure we create an exciting university environment that supports advanced medicine and health sciences education and research, as well as clinical services
for residents of the region.”
The university’s Physical Therapy Clinic is located just down the street from the campus in West Des Moines’ new MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex center, another state-of-the-art facility on Grand Avenue focused on sports health and wellness.
