Hopkinton’s Civil War Days, from May 31 through June 2, take you straight back to the 1860s. The grounds become a lively historical scene, featuring actors dressed in period clothing, active military encampments and a narrated battlefield re-enactment. There are skill and craft demonstrations, an artisans’ market, kids’ games and a pie-eating contest. Modern refreshments like local food, ice cream and coffee are also available.

The weekend kicks off Friday with a “stone soup” dinner and grand ball, followed by guided flashlight tours. Saturday begins with a pancake breakfast, mid-morning tea and a parade, leading up to the 3 p.m. battle. The celebration winds down on Sunday with an old-fashioned church service and a picnic lunch.
